Update: Ty got third at the 2009 Australian Moomba Masters and has made the finals of nearly every tournament so far during the 2009 season. He is currently 12th in the world on the Elite World Ranking List and has a few more international competitions left with a grand finale in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in November.
Background:
Ty started skiing when he was 3 years old and started competing at age 7. Since his first competition, Ty has won a total of 22 State, Regional, and National titles, and has held 13 State, Regional, and National Records. In 2001 Ty moved to Orlando Florida to compete for one of the country’s best Collegiate waterski programs, Rollins College. After winning 3 collegiate National Championships and holding the Collegiate National Record he began focusing on the professional level rising up 8th in the World. After a brutal ankle injury in 2005 requiring 2 ankle surgeries, 1 which required him to be operated on in Amsterdam, Ty was unable to compete from 2005-2007. During his first come-back year in 2008 Ty has risen all the way to number 23 (IWSF.) 2009 looks promising and Ty expects to be back in the top 10 by the end of the season.
Some of the highlights of Ty’s career thus far include being ranked #1 in the world for 21 and under, back-to-back Jr. U.S. Open titles, 3-time Collegiate National Champion, Collegiate National Record holder, Men’s 1 National Tournament Record holder, and finishing 3rd at the Australian Moomba Championships under only Andy Mapple and Chris Parrish. Ty’s highest ranking was in 2004 where he reached #8 in the world on the IWSF ranking list and #3 on the elite list at one point.
Hobbies: Off the water Ty enjoys: snowboarding, surfing, basketball, tennis, rock climbing, and mountain biking.
